The Mountain Life

Have you ever dreamt of having a small house on top of mountain? or ever imagined yourself sipping coffee at an altitude as an everyday affair ? Then getting a degree at such place would be appropriate for you as it is considered to be a symbol of nutrition and healthy living. The best thing about the Aligarh Muslim University Malappuram Campus is its vibrant surrounding. If you want to defy the stereotype of being the lazy, housebound student, then choose AMUMC. The campus is so isolated from the main city that you don’t even get a feeling you are in Kerala yet absorbing most of its beauty. The only time you need to interact in Malyalam(local language of Kerala) is while having word with chechis (helpers). The finest thing about going to campus isn’t the college itself but its surroundings. The Malappuram campus is all together different from the rest of the off-campuses . Nowhere you will get to study in nature’s lap. The importance of attending classes here with breathtaking vicinity is more important than you might think. After all, if you’re really going to thrive throughout your education, then you need to be somewhere where you can feel comfortable. There’s no denying that living in the mountains encourages an active, healthy lifestyle .

Nowadays people must be missing the routine things of college life: classes, exams, presentations, discussions, classrooms, corridors, friends, classmates, teachers, canteen, and hangouts. But there are few things only the students of Malappuram must be missing, specially trees and the greenery around the beautiful campus, all because of the ongoing pandemic. The reading room where students used to sit for hours every day. In the beginning we all were struggling to adjust to online classes, lacking motivation or experiencing other mental barriers. For almost all of us, COVID-19 has derailed life, and there’s no denying that it’s generated a lot of loss. Student losing precious time away from the campus. Nevertheless let’s get transported to that time again and try to reminisce about it. The campus life is different here. There is often wonderful things to see—animal visitors such as monkeys. These monkeys accompany you for breakfast and lunch. You get to see wildflowers in bloom that you’ve never noticed before. You get to jog with your teachers and sometimes end up sipping tea at their place. It makes sure that faculty-student relations are to be cordial, respectful and beneficial to each other. And of course no event goes without rains here. Be it Sir Syed day, Milad-un-Nabi or random outings. The heavy rains at every possible important event may give a heavenly touch. Carrying an umbrella is an everyday affair. Umbrella and raincoats are among the most essential commodities here.

Life at AMUMC can be an experience for lifetime. Through interacting with nature and wildlife, you develop respect for the earth and empathy for the well-being of the environment and of the animals. Plants and animals live much more freely on mountains. For someone who loves nature in its purest form then this pro of mountain living may be all that you need.

Residential area of campus

University campus is situated on the top of the mountain away from chaos and distraction, for the people who appreciate peace, quiet, and the chance to inhabit their own little slice of mostly untouched nature. Your morning start with breathtaking vistas and ends with magnificent night sky you’ll ever see. Your day is like any other hill person (Pahari) who walks down the slope for work or studies and return back. Though you will be far from the quick trip to the store, modern convenience but you’ll be trading that in for fresh air, wide-open nature. Therefore one must plan appropriately and make sure you have everything you need.

AMU Malappuram Hostel ViewAuthentic and most magical view

Studying in AMUMC will be such a unique and special experience. Amalgamation of the south and north culture is exceptionally awe-inspiring. The goal remain same i.e. to preserve the Aligarh “tahzeeb” . ‘ONAM’ is the annual fest of the university which is organised at a grand level and everyone makes it a point to register their attendance. These traditions have enriched the culture of AMUMC through years of confluence and intermingling of minds. One must strive to make most of it. Till the things get back to normal think about the time that was filled primarily with warm memories and bursts of laughter. About roads where on days you would sit talking, run from gate till the hostel gates shuts at 6:30 p.m. , the run from hostel to 8:30 class and so on and so forth. This will be timeless in its own way.One only have to keep their eyes and ears open and everyday in the mountains can bring something novel and awe-inspiring.
